Located in the middle of the Minorcan countryside and only some kilometres from the crystal clear beaches, the Rural Hotel & Restaurant Alcaufar Vell preserves the spirit and the warmth of those places with a life in the past.
The arrival at the farm and the short walk to reach the main building takes us back to old times. Centuries of Minorcan country life and a family history welcome us from the beginning.
Since the 14th century our family, the Mercadals, has owned this farm. We wanted to transform the house that used to belong to our ancestors into a wonderful place to rest and enjoy the good life with all modern amenities.
Silent witness to the Minorcan way of life and to a family memory, the house and its magical spots with a country flavour, preserve the souls of its inhabitants, guests, visitors and of the lives lived in it. Long ago, Alcaufar Vell was a meeting point for the family and the people from around: family events, the harvest, the pig slaughter (porquejades), and the retirement place for the resting and summer holidays of the landlord.
The hotel has about 20 large rooms, comfortable and beautifully renovated. They are distributed around the main building of the 18th century (which includes a 14th century tower) and the two annexes located in what used to be the old laundry and the stables of the farm more than 100 years ago. The restaurant occupies the old barns of the farm and during the summer it moves to the “Jardí dels ullastres” garden, where our guests can enjoy excellent cuisine beneath the hundred-year-old wild olive trees.
The surroundings of the hotel are also unique and singular: simple gardens with corners where one can get lost, a swimming pool surrounded by wild olive trees, tracks and acres of land and woods to relax and enjoy the nature. In short, a place that encourages the enjoyment of the Mediterranean essence.
When you dream of marking a relevant moment, you normally think of a special place. Alcaufar Vell is that place, really beautiful, charming and endearing.
